Forerunners


While forerunners refers a groupstamp-like labelspolitical interest that were printed around the timethe establishmentthe Irish Free State in 1922, the name suggest these are predecessorsthe first postage stamps but this is not the case. The Irish forerunners are really political labels as opposed to postally valid adhesives. They were not meant as prepaymentpostage but fit into the turbulent and complex political historythe period, though much information about them is still unknown.

The usethese labels on the frontenvelopes
was forbidden by Post Office regulationsJuly, 1908.


1922 Irish White Cross labels

These labels were issued to fund victimsBlack and Tan atrocities.

Used on registered first day coverthe 1941 Easter Rising provisional 2d and 3d overprints.

The dates for BALPEX are August 31, September 1 & 2, 2018.  The AGM will take place on Saturday, September 1,  at 2:00 p.m.  Our business meeting will be followed by a speaker on some aspect of Irish philately.   All are invited.
